Watching a sport is meaningless. Watching it on screen is worse. Playing a sport, may have SOME value but I'm not evolved enough to enjoy games with contrived, complex and chaotic rules. I don't get it. Kick a ball in a goal. Oh fun! Go catch someone - exhilarating, seek and find someone behind a bush - delightful, but what on Earth is offside? Why do we need that?
Let's not even get into Tennis. I don't understand it, I watch it, because my family does and I sit with yarn and needles. Creating loops repeatedly with pointy or hooked needles makes more sense than hitting a ball repeatedly back and forth. The ball goes nowhere, whilst I end
up making a garment.

We see atheists everywhere. We don't have sport haters. Being a fan is like following a religion. You have deities and you are always choosing the good over the bad. Like rooting for the guy or guys that you think are entitled to win. The dogma is all made up. Like religion the rules of the games are all made up and there is ample space for subjective interpretation. This leads to conflicts. These are manmade constructs and yet we take it all too seriously. Religions now have holy months, instead of just being months where we did certain things - sports have seasons. Some guy in some book wrote that we should cover our heads in a temple and white becomes the colour of Wimbledon. Religions have paraphernalia, rituals, chanting and pilgrimages to bizarre places sometimes even at the risk of dying! Sports World Cups are no less dangerous than pilgrimages, there's chanting, paraphernalia, rituals etc. but the similarities don't end there. Both sports and religion have purists that adhere to the gospels and to the game but then there are all those followers of personalities. Those people who fall prey to personalities and become cult members.

We need rebels, we need hippies, we need aunties like me who have spent hours and years on the playground with their children OUTSIDE in parks and play areas. We need folks who can shriek into the world and say that seeing a man adjust his crotch guard to hit a ball with a bat so that he can get 4 points is pointless, Furthermore, when that crotch adjuster gets more points and more money he ends up selling gutkhas or colas on screen. For more money. Unlike these athletes, the Gods in heaven have no influence on us mere mortals and can do no harm!

Om sweet Om!
